Wshl veterens Ron Handy and Jeremy Law have come together to form the Texas Renegades. The Renegades will challenge the league's traditional powerhouses for dominance this upcoming season. Ron Handy has moved the Cajun Catahoulas out of Southern Louisiana to Fort Worth Texas and will concentrate on the Owner/GM duties. The first move as GM was to find a coach. He could not have done better than hiring Jeremy Law. Coach Law is a top notched recruiter and has already proven that he can win Championships in the league (FW Texans). With these two at the helm, the rest of the league better be prepared for a gunfight. Tryouts will be held July 11-13, please visit www.texasrenegades.net for more info.

I noticed their website didn't say Teir 3, Junior A anywhere but the Junior A right under the team name is very prominant. I guess that's why those Junior B leagues fought so hard to get the Teir 3, Junior A status, so they could mislead parents of players.

Thankyou for looking. Site Clearly states that we are part of the WSHL. Since Topeka's site doesn't mention the level of hockey at all, only that they are part of the NAHL, i guess those parents are in the same boat...

There is only one Teir 2, Junior A league in the US, that's the NAHL and I think most parents of Junior aged players have heard of it. I'm not so sure about the WSHL in that regard. Good luck and I hope you guys do well. I'm sure Handy and Law will put a very good and competitive team on the ice.

I guess that's why those Junior B leagues fought so hard to get the Teir 3, Junior A status, so they could mislead parents of players. As much as I hate the whole Tier III concept, any parent who is that clueless when it comes to the US junior hockey landscape deserves to be misled... And Hip, I'm not sure where the team will play. It could be The Arena Formerly Known as Blue Line, or it could be up in Grapevine...

Jeremy wasn't out of coaching. Last year he was an assistant coach under Blake Wesley with the Summerland Sting of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League

why did Law leave the KIJHL?

why did Law leave the KIJHL? According to the first post, he joined to form a team in the US. I guess being part of a team is a bit better than being an Asst Coach. And I suspect he wanted to return to the States. Welcome back Jeremy.

I'm pretty sure the pay would be much better as a head coach in the WSHL than as an assistant in the KIJHL. Most assistant coaching jobs in the KIJHL are basically volunteer. Because the Sting are under the umbrella of the Okanagan Hockey School / Okanagan Hockey Academy, I'm sure Jeremy was pulling in a salary, but I don't know how much. Also -- correct me if I'm wrong -- but isn't Jeremy's wife from Texas?

Yes... her family is from Burleson, a south suburb of Fort Worth. And yes he was pulling a salary with the Academy.

I watched the first camp and was impressed with the talent, Handy knows what he's doing and with the support of the Fort Worth area will put a good team on the ice. He tried in Lafayette but Hockey doesn't have the support it did in the past.

8/7/08 Renegades and Dallas Stars partner up, Renegades change Venue:
The Texas Renegades are happy to announce that the Dallas Stars will be supporting the Renegades in their inaugural season in Dallas/ Ft. Worth. The Stars, longtime catalyst of hockey growth in the area, will assist with the marketing of the Renegades. As part of the agreement, the Renegades will play their home games at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Duncanville. The StarCenter is located just 29 miles south of DFW airport and is a state of the art facility. We are very excited about the opportunities this partnership will provide and look forward to a long and successful relationship with the Dallas Stars.
"The Dallas Stars are pleased to welcome the Texas Renegades to the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Duncanville for the 2008-2009 season. The Renegades will bring plenty of excitement to Duncanville this season, and will give the community its own Home Team to root for. The Stars are excited to lend their support to the Renegades and very pleased to be a part of bringing Junior Hockey to the southern part of the Metroplex." - release from Dallas Stars

The Renegades had a good crowd for the home opener this weekend and gave the fans what they wanted to see by winning 2 out of 3 against the Dallas Hawks.
