The calamity brewing in Wenatchee would be comical if only it wasn't eventually going to negatively affect the local hockey program. A program that has historically fielded competitive teams in each division drawing from a small pool of players. That pool will get even smaller once the price of ice time rises to help subsidize this new arena. Global is in trouble, the city of Wenatchee is committed, can't go back. And they are going to be in negotiations with the new team for a favorable lease. Who holds the aces there? The team may get an excellent deal because now the city has to find somebody to fill up the space. Any deficiency will be passed along to the other user groups eventually. Whether or not the arena management can convince 500 people to shell out 1,000-1,200 bucks for two season tickets plus parking (oh yeah, a seat licensing fee, I guess they think this is Seattle) to see pretty much the same hockey they can see for free now remains to be seen. A few people have stars in their eyes and unfortunately I'm afraid it is going to harm what the founders of WAHA started so many years ago.

I have been worried about bringing in Junior Hockey to Wenatchee without a well thought out plan. I do not think it is comical at all because I know how it will impact the community in general as well as the Hockey Association in Wenatchee. When the BCHL pulled out of the dance the city council should have taken a long hard look at what the potential was. I know that there was disagreement amongst the council and with good reason. Nothing against Flynn or Severson, but sometimes I think egos get in the way. I do not know if the demographics can support the NAHL...maybe Norpac but not with this big of an Arena. So before you start up the band wagon and start shooting me down, I have reason to want this to work in Wenatchee. Wenatchee is a great community and would be a great place for this sort of venue with a solid plan in place.

I agree player, Wenatchee would have been an excellent fit for a NORPAC team. Not enough prestige there though, I'm afraid, for the local ownership. Unfortunatley for the plain folk, egos do get in the way. The cream should rise to the top without continuous stirring, don't you think?

The so called "cratered" Wenatchee franchise has been formally approved by the NAHL today. Hope y'all can make it over the pass next winter. nahl.com/news/story.cfm?id=492

Well good for them. They will be in the south division because I don't think the NAHL is going to revise districts for next season, but I have been wrong before. Are they going to have spring camps? or just draft all the players? Draft is May 21.

Their coach has already been out and has started the recruiting of players for this season. I heard he has a few signed to Tenders. They will announce their try out camp dates soon.

33% increase in ice time fees, loss of concession stand revenue, looks like amatuer hockey in Wenatchee is going to get a major rate increase. Maybe the new team can help keep hockey affordable here. Oh, never mind, they got a favourable lease so the rest of us can pick up the slack.

Ice time goes from current $120 to $160 per hour for one of the nicest ice arena's in Washington state. Which is also the lowest rate in the state for ice time. More community focus on hockey now than ever, new hockey team, new arena soccer team and arena football. The mayor of Wenatchee is asking people to buy season tickets to the team, because it is important for Wenatchee. Can't remember when any mayor in Wenatchee paid attention to hockey. Maybe WAHA will actually grow and increase in size for the first time in 20 years, but that would be change so we can't do that. Things really are gloomy now!

Could anyone honestly say they want their kid to spend that many hours on the bus? LOL When I hear from Sandy Ross this is a good idea, I will support it 100%. But he has always had his wits about him and is an intelligent man. Also, one great hockey guy.

Are you serious? OVER $10 per ticket at season ticket rates? Who did the market research? Pollyanna? How many fans do they expect to average? That is going to be a pretty tough nut in Wenatchee.

This was posted over at JHN site: "Looks like cinderella story A' Into the finals in playoffs ,#1 attendance in the 19 team League by 20,000 ! looks like a pretty good success story !!Hope all the naysayers are taking note! Congratulations Wenatchee !!! "I must admmit, I was one of the biggest detractors on the basis of A.. out of league geographical area B.. didn't feel the interest was there in Wenatchee to support it. Since I must now chew on a black bird... may I at least look for a small one?
