My opinion? Eliminating the Junior B designation virtually eliminates the existence of feeder teams that play junior hockey. The only remaining Junior B leagues (if I'm remembering right) are Empire, Metro, and Continental. None goes very far west; Pittsburgh is probably the westernmost city with a Junior B program. The result: the Junior A teams in the east have feeder leagues for player development. The Junior A teams in the west don't. Because of those facts, I have a hard time envisioning the western Junior A leagues reaching the level of quality of the EJHL and AJHL.

My opinion - all they've resulted in the midwest/west is renaming Junior B to Junior A Tier III. The pecking order remains the same, and those leagues will continue to be potential feeders to Jr A (Tier I & II) and colleges (DIII/Club teams). Only the foolish think it's true Junior A...

I agree with Fangers. St. Louis, for example, will still try to promote their players to the NAHL and USHL because it is a step up, whether you call the CSHL Jr. B or Tier III Jr. A, it doesn't really matter. The only difference, really, that I see, will be at Nationals. A non-CSHL, MnJHL team will be playing for Nationals.

the tier III label is a joke to begin with. in canada there are three "teirs" you could say. major junior, tier II and then junior b. i play for thorold in the GHL, which is considered junior b in canada and we beat the top two teams in the AJHL without much effort while missing our top 3 defenseman and leading scorer. all the tier III label is for is so that kids can say they play junior a hockey. it's a joke, i'd rather have the junior b label and play in canada then joke myself into being a junior "a" hockey player.

I agree with fangers. Pay to play is still Jr. B.
