This event has been going on for at least 3 years I know of personally. I can't tell you when it actually started. It has always been heavily scouted, at least in part because of location.

The Showcase has all the EJ and AJ teams, as well as some others (Hampton Roads Ind. team, Wheatfield, etc.), and the MJHL and Empire teams as well. Lots of hockey.

Virginia Express is there from CHA Junior B, and I think the Space Coast Hurricanes is their CHA Junior B team also.

I know several of the Surf players. I am also familiar with the EJHL and AJHL of the last two years. If the EJHL teams are close to the level of last year, the Surf are going to take a beating (spell that double digit losses). Hope I'm wrong, but ....

I would expect the OPJHL to have the edge over the Atlantic league. That is not a negative for the AtJHL. The results of the NAHL vs EJHL league from a couple of years ago is a case in point. The NAHL dominated that matchup (yes I've heard the EJHL explanations - dominate still fits).
A better comparison would be the OPJHL against the NAHL and the EJHL vs the AtJHL, apples vs apples. I don't think any of the first year Tier III leagues (read Jr B) are at the same level as the AtJHL with the two Western leagues being further back than the 2 Mid-Western leagues.

The Rockets and Bobcats didn't leave much room for me to defend them on this one. They should be able to consistently beat a GOHL team (I didn't recognize GOHL - thought Golden Horseshoe was still around).
Have GOHL and OPJHL teams played in tournaments this year?

The Shamrocks are at the bottom of the EJHL, but I still thought they would overpower the Surf. Looks like I'll be eating my words.

i play for thorold in the golden horseshoe and we are 5th in our league standings but we are 2 points out of third with 5 games in hand over the 4th place team and 4 games in hand over the 3rd place team. we are also only 10 pts out of first with 5 games in hand, do the math and with the streak the team is currently on we could be in a tie for first after the games played get evened out.
with that said the aj is a very weak league, we had no trouble beating the top two teams, the bobcats and the rockets. the scores were much closer then reflected seeing as how against the rockets we were shorthanded half the game and against the bobcats we had been up with a team party the whole night. the ej is just as weak though seeing as how their top teams don't beat the aj teams by that much either.
us hockey has dropped in skill with the exception of the ushl and the top end nahl teams. any other junior "a" leagues should not be considered "a" in the states.
